Russian scholastic institutions.
Russian educational system consists of pre-school education, primary (or elementary) education, general secondary education, vocational training, secondary specialized education and higher education. All kinds of the education system are connected and make up a single whole.
At present the eleven-year school is attended by the children between the ages of 7 to 17 or 18. This is the first link of the secondary educational system.
School teaching combines a theoretical knowledge of the fundamentals of science with practical skills. The school also pays attention to physical education of the rising generation. Each school has its own library and their laboratories have the latest equipment and instruments. Television, radio, up-to-date computers are playing a very important part in the learning process.
Russia has several types of specialized secondary schools: technical schools or “tekhnikums” (industrial, transport, agricultural, building and others), colleges, lyceums and “uchilishcha” (teacher training, medical, artistic, cultural and educational) and various other specialized schools. The specialized secondary schools accept girls and boys after they have finished the nine-year school or a secondary school and have passed entrance examinations. Courses last three or four years.
Our country has four groups of higher educational institutions, universities, academies, specialized colleges and institutes.
All types of higher educational institutions have research studentships. The best graduates are normally offered the places at the post-graduate course. Postgraduates study for three or four years. During this they must under the supervision of their tutors take postgraduate examinations and write Candidate’s dissertation.

Our Academy
The Primorskiy Agricultural Institute was founded in 1957. In 1995 it got a new status and became the Primorskaya State Academy of Agriculture. The Academy includes five institutes which train highly qualified specialists for all branches of agriculture and forestry. Among them are agronomists, zooengineers and veterinary doctors, foresters, specialists in form mechanization, economists and accountants and many other specialists.
Our Academy has daytime, evening and extra-mural departments. There is also a post-graduate course which trains research workers for agricultural production.
About 5000 students study at our Academy. The course of study lasts for five years. There are two terms during the academic year. The academic year begins in September and ends in June or July. Each year the students have two examination periods when they have to take examinations and tests. Those students who study well get a scholarship.
The theoretical study is closely connected with practice. Most students of the Academy get their practical knowledge at the Experimental Training Farm which is located in the village of Vozdvizhenka. The students leant to cultivate the soil, to glow and harvest the crops, to take care of farm animals, to drive tractors and combine harvesters.
The Institutes of our Academy are located in different parts of our town. They occupy four multistory buildings. The Academy is headed by the Rector and each Institute is heeded by the Director.
There is a department of interpreters at our Academy. It gives the students the opportunity to get an additional speciality. Those who graduate from this department get diplomas of interpreters of English in the sphere of their professional activity.
There are several hostels at our Academy and many students from other towns and villages prefer to live in the hostel.
The Institutes of the Academy are well equipped with modem and comprehensive facilities, computers, instruments, text books. Each Institute has a library and a reading room. The Students’ Scientific Society gives t
